Last night Redditch Borough Council held an engagement meeting with Bird Scooters and residents. Residents had a chance to voice their concerns directly with the operator of the scooter trial.
The trial commenced in 2020 and is set to finish in March 2024. Bird gave a presentation and the slides will be made available on the councils website: https://www.redditchbc.gov.uk/.../getting.../e-scooters.aspx
Bird agreed to go away and work on a number of points raised:
Increase collaboration with police.
Engage with schools to educate on why under 18's are not permitted to use Bird scooters
Create designated parking spaces for Bird Scooters, something they are already looking into.
Facial recognition in order to unlock the scooter reducing the number of incidents where young people use the scooter on an adults licence.
Mapping pavements throughout the town so that Bird scooters can't use them
Better responsiveness from Bird and widely circulated contact details.
Residents were urged to report misuse of a Bird Scooter directly to Bird or Redditch Borough Council Officer Mike Dunphy. Contact details are on the council website: https://www.redditchbc.gov.uk/.../getting.../e-scooters.aspx
